INTERNATIONAL SPINE MEETING HELD IN CHICAGO IN 2012

The International Spine meeting was held in McCormick Place, Chicago, 4 October 2012. Experts from the United States and many foreign countries gathered to exchange information about spine problems. A major area of the conference was degenerative spine disease. As the worlds population ages, specific spinal pathology has come to the forefront and treatment modalities can be varied. Assessment of the physiopathology of the degenerative process and, therefore, treatments were discussed. AASP members attended including members of Spine Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. One area of interest was the long-term follow-up of operations for cervical disc herniation including comparing long-term follow-up of anterior operations versus posterior operations.
