PLANNED IMPLEMENTION OF WWW.SPINEHEALTH.INFO FOR PUBLIC ACCESS

PLANNED IMPLEMENTION OF http://www.spinehealth.info/ FOR PUBLIC ACCESS

The American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP) is committed to educating patients and the public about common spine conditions.  It has become imperative that the public have access to accurate information written and reviewed by physicians who are spine specialists. To ensure that the public has access to reliable information, the AASP is going to provide a large interactive database of “need-to-know” information about spine conditions.  This will be implemented shortly after the first of the year. The educational initiative will include a user friendly online search function linked to over 30 common spine conditions. Script pads will be made available to physicians. Each tear off sheet of the script pad will list the common spine conditions and instructing the patient on how to access the information online. A template approach has been designed to simplify the user’s ability to access information under the heading of each condition. The categories under each condition will include a condition description, an overview of signs and symptoms, natural progression, differential diagnosis, diagnostic methods used to identify and characterize the condition and treatment options. Digital illustrations will be used to help educate the user.

The AASP has secured the easily remembered domain name http://www.spinehealth.info/ which will be used to access the database. The information can also be accessed on the AASP Public Information Center (PIC) located on the main AASP website at http://www.spinephysicians.org/. The new information will replace the current more limited condition descriptions.
